(Aug 21, 2008) Cotton candy is a simple pleasure that melts away almost when it touches the tongue. Like summer, it's a fleeting pleasure. Southern Ontario fall fairs help us move from one season to the next. They keep alive a connection to our agricultural roots and have a way of making memories for years to come.

* Aug. 22, 23 and 24
Winona Peach Festival
It's a peach of a festival in Winona, with a midway, arts and crafts, children's Fun Factory, Grand Peach Ball, pageant, parades, car show and more. Admission is free, and the festival runs Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can find the festival at 1328 Barton St., Winona, just west of Fifty Road.

Paris Fair
Since 1858, the Paris Agricultural Society has hosted the Paris Fair. Food, demolition derby, live entertainment, midway, exhibits, agricultural events, helicopter rides and much more are waiting for you. Admission costs $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 10 to 15 years, and free for children nine and younger. The fair opens at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. Friday, 8:30 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday and Monday. The fairgrounds are located at 139 Silver St., Paris.

Smithville Fall Fair
The Smithville Fall Fair has horse shows, cattle shows, sheep shows, baby show, pet show, midway, demolition derby, food and more. Located at the Smithville Fairgrounds on Highway 20, the fair hours are 4 to midnight on Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday to Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children. The Six Nations Fall Fair and Powwow
Immerse yourself in tradition and ceremony at the Six Nations Fall Fair and Powwow. You'll find agricultural exhibits, powwow, rodeo, horse shows, native crafts, demolition derby, field lacrosse tournament, grandstand entertainment and more. Fireworks are scheduled for the Friday at 9 p.m. Admission costs $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and youth, $4 for children and free for children 5 and under. The Lincoln County Fair
It's the 151st anniversary of the Lincoln County Fair. The fair includes live entertainment, vendors, tractor pull, midway, demolition derby, dog show and more. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and $2 for children to age 13. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 to 11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Free parking is available on the fairgrounds. The Beamsville Fairgrounds are located off Fairgrounds Road north of King and Ontario streets in Beamsville.

Georgetown Fall Fair
Culture and tradition abound at the 162nd Annual Georgetown Agricultural Society's Fall Fair. Horse shows, 4-H shows, dairy cattle, arts and crafts, culinary arts, pet show, tractor pulls, rides, demolition derby, midway and much more are featured. New this year is the freestyle motocross show. Admission is $15 for a weekend pass, $5 for adults on Friday and Sunday, $8 for adults on Saturday, $3 for children ages 7 to 12, and free for children 6 and younger. Niagara Regional Exhibition
See the RCMP Musical Ride performances at the NRE this year. Shows are at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission into the exhibition allows access to the musical ride. Admission rates are $7 for adults, $4 for seniors, $5 for youth ages 11 to 17, $1 for children ages 6 to 10 and children 5 and younger are free. The gates open at noon Thursday, 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. NRE is located at 1100 Niagara St. N., Welland.

Fergus Fall Fair
Celebrating its rural roots, the 172nd Annual Fergus Fall Fair features a Heritage Display in the agricultural shed during the fair. You will also find a midway, petting zoo, pony rides, baby show, sheepdog-herding demonstrations, amateur dog show, bicycle/tricycle decorating contest, pedal pull, exhibits, truck pulls and more. Fair hours start at 9 a.m. daily. The fairgrounds are located at Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex, 550 Belsyde Ave. Fergus.

Binbrook Fall Fair
Start your weekend with the fair's parade on Friday at 7 p.m. The 154th Binbrook Fall Fair includes midway, demolition derby, goat and horse shows, milking demonstrations, baby show, horse pulls, exhibits and more. Fair hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults and free for children 12 and younger. Ancaster Fair
The 158th Ancaster Fair continues to encourage the awareness of agriculture in the city. Dairy shows, sheep shearing, live entertainment, spelling bee, fun fair, midway, demolition derby, exhibits, horse shows, 4-H, home crafts, baby show and more. St. George Apple Harvest Festival
Apples are a simple autumn pleasure and celebrating the crisp fruit is St. George's tradition. The festival includes bake sales (can you say apple pie), craft area, children's activities, hot air balloon rides, live entertainment and more. Applefest hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. St. George is located on Highway 5, west of Flamborough.

The Milton Fair
Fun for the whole family can be had at the Milton Fall Fair. Caledonia Fair
There's more than the midway to keep you engaged at the 136th annual Caledonia Fair. With demolition derby, jugglers, clowns, live entertainment, games, tractor pulls, milking demonstrations and more. Admission fees vary. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The fairgrounds are located on Highway 54 in Caledonia.

The Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show
West Coast Lumberjacks are featured at the fair this year with three shows daily, meet the celebrity chefs with two shows for each chef daily, Canadian Idol concert, live entertainment, demolition derby, tractor pull, and monster truck rides together with the agricultural competitions. The fairgrounds open 9 or 10 a.m. daily. General admission is $8 for adults from Tuesday to Thursday, $10 for adults Friday to Monday; $3 for youth ages 6 to 13 (free on Tuesday); free for children 5 and younger. Family Day is Sunday with a $20 rate. Parking is $4. No pets on the fairgrounds, which are located at 172 South Dr., Simcoe.

Rockton World's Fair
Rockton World's Fair has been a tradition since 1852. Midway, 4-H, demolition derby, horse shows, elephant show, cattle barn, exhibits, food and new this year is Antiques for the Casual Collector. Hours are Friday 4 to 10:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $3 for elementary students; preschoolers free.
