IS ANYONE SAFE?

Carrie Fisher's new book, Wishful Drinking, isn't due until December, but the New York Post is publishing some of its barbs. Of her failed marriage to agent Bryan Lourd, the father of her daughter Billie, Fisher ridicules the idea she changed his sexual orientation. 'He told me later that I had turned him gay ... by taking codeine again. And I said, You know, I never read that warning on the label. I thought it said heavy machinery, not homosexuality.'

Of her dad, Eddie Fisher, who left her mom, Debbie Reynolds, for Elizabeth Taylor: 'Naturally, my father flew to Elizabeth's side, gradually making his way to her front.' Reynolds' subsequent husbands were such disasters, she once said, "Eddie's starting to look like the good husband."

Of Star Wars, in which Fisher is shown at age 19 as Princess Leia: She was looking at her white costume when director George Lucas said, "You can't wear a bra under that dress." "Why?" asked Fisher. "There's no underwear in space," he replied.

Of first husband, Paul Simon, she notes that one time, as he drove her to the airport, "I turned to him and said, 'You'll feel bad if I crash.' He shrugged and said, 'Maybe not.'"

Hope and charity

George Lopez now owns something of Bob Hope's.

He snatched up some of Hope's golfing gear at a charity auction over the weekend. The auction raised more $600,000 for charities and causes important to Hope, who died in 2003 at age 100.

An autographed photo of Lucille Ball, with blacked- out teeth, sold for more than $6,500. A handwritten letter from Bing Crosby went for more than $5,000.

But it was The Material Gristle

Madonna's obsession with maintaining a perfect body -- she's shown here performing in Toronto Saturday -- has been cited as one of the factors behind her split with Guy Ritchie. Her strict regimen reportedly meant the couple went for 18 months without making love. When they did find time to make love, it was like "cuddling up to a piece of gristle," Ritchie is said to have told friends.

Hey, nice bling, Dick!

Andy Dick is going to have to wear an alcohol monitor for a year.

The bracelet will tell authorities if he's been drinking.

Dick pleaded guilty to drug and battery charges.

The NewsRadio costar had been accused of pulling a teenage girl's top down.

Dick has to serve three years probation in addition to wearing the ankle bracelet.

Farrell out of focus

Colin Farrell has gone through what he calls "a massive life change."

Farrell tells Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show he's sober after being drunk for 15 years, and high for a good few as well.

He says he's lucky he had the support to kick his habits.

But he admits it's now tough to see the world in stark focus.

I ain't so tough anymore

The toughest thing Mark Wahlberg did in filming Max Payne is to admit he's not the tough guy he used to be.

Not only is Wahlberg older, he's a family man now.

Wahlberg says it was hard keeping up the facade that he's still tough and cool, and that he can still do his own stunts and it doesn't hurt and he's not scared.

He says he's not the thrill-seeker he used to be.

Tina's recipe for Palin

Tina Fey told David Letterman her Sarah Palin is a blend of the accents in the movie Fargo, a bit of Reese Witherspoon from Election and a touch of her friend's granny from Illinois.

Fey says anybody can do it.

She says not since Sling Blade has there been a voice so easy to imitate.

Saturday Night Live had its highest ratings in 14 years when Palin, shown leaving the NBC studios, appeared Saturday.

CMA flies with the Eagles

The Eagles have been added as performers at the Country Music Awards. The band, that's Timothy B. Schmit, front, and Don Henley performing in Toronto in July, will join Kid Rock and Carrie Underwood on the show Nov. 12 in Nashville on ABC.

OR MAYBE DIDN'T CARE?

Nelly Furtado got married and hardly anyone knew about it.

Entertainment Tonight Canada quotes Furtado as saying she married her sound engineer, Demacio Castellon, July 19.

They met while working on her 2006 album, Loose, and they were engaged since last year.

When asked about married life, Furtado said, "I love it. It's a nice phase of my life."
