OSCAR BUZZ

AFFLECK HELPS OUT

Ben Affleck is trying to draw more attention to the conflict in eastern Congo, where some 250,000 people have been displaced by violence. The actor visited the Central African country this week to tour refugee camps and meet with aid officials and experts. It is his fourth visit since 2007. In May, he filmed a documentary on eastern Congo's difficulties for the news show Nightline.

Suri Cruise is top tot

Suri Cruise is the most popular kid on the playground.

The two-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes tops Forbes.com's second annual list of Hollywood's 10 Hottest Tots.

Three of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's six children also made the list: Two-year-old Shiloh is in second place after coming in first last year; three-year-old Zahara is in third and four-year-old Pax Jolie-Pitt is in fourth place.

Others in the top 10 are Sam Alexis Woods, daughter of Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin; Cruz Beckham, son of David and Victoria Beckham; and Matilda Rose Ledger, daughter of Michelle Williams and the late Heath Ledger.

Madonna divorce near

Madonna and Guy Ritchie are set to be granted the first stage of their divorce in London.

London's High Court lists Ciccone M. L. vs. Ritchie G. S. as one of 16 cases for "matrimonial and civil partnership causes for pronouncement of decree."

A judge will grant the couple a preliminary divorce decree, or decree nisi.

After six weeks and a day they likely will be granted a decree absolute and the divorce will become final.

Scandal? What scandal?

Russell Brand has been named one of the Breakout Stars of 2008 in a list compiled by Entertainment Weekly magazine.

Brand recently quit his BBC Radio 2 show amid scandal. He phoned former Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs and left a vulgar message.

"The British comedian is a refreshing, rakish alternative to his shlubby American counterparts," the magazine wrote.

Ryder in midair drama

Winona Ryder was taken to hospital in London after a suspected overdose while on a flight and reportedly had her stomach pumped.

Ryder is believed to have accidentally taken too many Xanax pills, which are used to treat anxiety.

The Oscar-nominated actress collapsed twice on the 10-hour flight from Los Angeles. One passenger said: "She turned a deathly shade of pale. It was scary."

Voight has a twin date

Jon Voight is hoping to meet Angelina Jolie's four-month-old twins next week. The actor has a difficult relationship with his famous daughter, and has only recently started seeing her again after years of estrangement.

When asked what he was doing for (American) Thanksgiving, Voight said: "The twins! Holy smokes ... I'm hoping to meet them then, so we'll see!"

Speaking at the premiere of 24: Redemption in New York, Voight also revealed he is thrilled his daughter is so content with her life.

"I think it's wonderful that she loves kids. She always had this very unusual idea about family."

GUCCI GIVES BOOST TO UNICEF

Rihanna, Blake Lively and Madonna brought star power to Gucci's party in New York City for its campaign to support UNICEF. The Tattoo Heart Collection designed by Gucci creative director Frida Giannini donates 25 per cent of its sales to programs for orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
