(Nov 26, 2008) Twilight sequel coming
The success of the vampire blockbuster Twilight has spawned a movie sequel, New Moon.
Based on the second novel in Stephenie Meyer's bestselling book series, the tale continues the passionate love story of high school student Bella and the beautiful vampire Edward.
E1 Films Canada, which distributed Twilight, says the teen romance raked in more than $5 million on the weekend to become the No. 1 film in Canada.
They also say it broke all previous Canadian records when advance ticket sales topped $1 million.
Spacey gets stage award
Kevin Spacey has won a drama award for reviving London's historic Old Vic Theatre.
Spacey, an Oscar winner for American Beauty and The Usual Suspects, was given a special prize at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards "for bringing new life to the Old Vic."
Spacey took charge of the Old Vic in 2003, reviving the 190-year-old theatre with a series of acclaimed and popular productions.
The award judges cited a recent, critically acclaimed revival of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow starring Spacey and Jeff Goldblum, and the theatre's current production of Alan Ayckbourn's comic trilogy The Norman Conquests.
Woes for Winehouse
Amy Winehouse's spokesman says the troubled singer is being treated at a clinic following a reaction to medication. Chris Goodman says Winehouse was admitted to the London Clinic on Sunday. He declined to identify the medication that caused the reaction.
The 25-year-old Grammy winner has a history of drug problems and has been in and out of hospitals this year.
On Monday, a British court rejected an appeal by Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, against his sentence for assault and obstructing justice.
The judges urged him to continue making progress at a drug rehabilitation centre.
Jen gets dating advice
Jennifer Aniston has been offered dating advice by the authors of The Rules.
Sherrie Schneider, coauthor of the dating manual, says the former Friends actress should not have spoken publicly about her summer breakup from John Mayer, and should also keep quiet about her ex-husband Brad Pitt's relationship with Angelina Jolie.
"Breaking up is never easy, but it doesn't have to be humiliating," said Schneider. "Never mention Brad's or John Mayer's name in public. Also, don't say any thing bad about John, like when you said he was missing a sensitivity chip."
Referring to Aniston's recent first interview about Jolie, during which she called the actress "uncool" for admitting she had started her relationship with Pitt while he was still married, Schneider added: "Never talk about Angelina or call her 'uncool,' even if she was uncool. She does not exist in your world."
Singing a happy tune
The story of Scott Weiland's marriage is the story of his new album, Happy in Galoshes.
Weiland married his wife, Mary, in 2000, and he's going through what he calls an "unexpected divorce."
He says Happy in Galoshes is a concept album about the love lost between them.
He says it chronicles their relationship from the moment they married, and every time they separated he'd come to his studio and purge his feelings.
Happy in Galoshes is in stores today.
