The man accused of slashing an acquaintance in the face with a fish knife was caught trying to slip over the border into the United States.

Police issued a warrant for the arrest of 34-year-old James Moore Tuesday after the bloody confrontation outside the Hamilton central police station. Investigators say Moore walked up to a couple in front of the station, pulled the fishing knife and slashed the 47-year-old man in the face.

The woman rushed into the police station to get help while the knife-wielding man fled on foot. The victim was taken to hospital, where he was treated and released.

Police say Moore was arrested at about 4 a.m. Thursday as he tried to cross the border at the Rainbow Bridge. He was recognized by the U.S Border Authorities and was detained before being shipped back to Hamilton to face charges.

Moore is charged with assault and weapons offences.
