MONTREAL— A 430-pound convict nicknamed "Big Mike" has been given early parole because a Quebec prison could not accommodate his massive frame.
Michel Lapointe, who served 25 months in jail for conspiracy, drug trafficking and gangsterism, was paroled three months early.
A Quebec judge knocked six months off the 37-year-old’s sentence in May after prison authorities could not provide him with a big enough chair or table.
Lapointe also argued that he couldn’t take a proper shower in a prison he described as "hell."
He Lapointe has been ordered to stay away from bars and he will have to meet with a parole officer on a regular basis over the next three months.
Lapointe told reporters following his release that he was looking forward to getting on with his life.
