(Jul 23, 2008) Say au revoir to Air Transat charter flights to St. Martin.
The airline will no longer be flying to the Caribbean island from the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport for the 2008-09 season.
"It's part of our business and our industry to try new destinations in new places," said Air Transat media representative Jean-Michel Laberge. "Unfortunately, the demand for this particular destination from Hamilton was not sufficient enough."
The company will continue to offer charter flights to Cancun, Mexico, and Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic.
In May, Air Transat competitor Sunwing announced flights to Varadero, Cuba and Punta Cana out of Hamilton.
Steve Howse, the director of communications at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, agreed this is commonplace within the industry.
"People don't want to go to the same destination year after year," Howse said.
Air Transat has been flying from Hamilton to St. Martin for the past year.
Now, Hamiltonians will have to head to Toronto Pearson International Airport if they want to visit the French and Dutch island.
