(Jul 18, 2008) Two teenage girls took a late-night joyride Wednesday that ended when the sedan they were driving hit three parked cars, jumped a curb, drove over lawns and hit a tree.
Neither was licenced. Neither was hurt in the incident.
The joyride began when a 15-year-old from Beamsville and a 16-year-old from Hamilton, out with friends, decided to take a friend's family sedan without permission.
"We're lucky that the only thing that happened was property damage," said Hamilton police Staff-Sergeant Maggie Schoen.
When police arrived on the scene in the Rosslyn and Sherbrooke area, the 15-year-old was given a roadside test and received a warning.
The 16-year-old wasn't tested at the time though, Schoen said witnesses reporting seeing both drive.
"The (teens) had struck a car and backed up and struck another."
The 15 -year-old is being charged with failure to remain. Both are charged with careless driving and driving without a licence.
