The Hamilton Tiger-Cats lost to B.C. Lions 35-12 at Ivor Wynne Stadium, Saturday night.
Cat starter Casey Printers was pulled after the first half after failing to lead
his club for a major score.
Printers fired one interception, fumbled once and
was sacked three times.
Richie Williams started the second half.
He engineered a nine-play, 54-yard
march in the third quarter that led to a one-yard touchdown scamper by Terry
Caulley. That’s Caulley’s fifth
touchdown for the season.
But this one was all Lions - all the time.
Hamilton's Nick Setta took the safety in the opening third quarter minutes, offering the Lions two more points.
The Cats were vociferously booed off the turf as the first half came to an end.
Printers was ineffective and sacked four times by the Lions' front four.
The biggest cheer of the afternoon came when a Tiger-Cat fan booted a 40-yard
field goal at the intermission. The kick hit the crossbar and rolled over to
win the fan $5,000.
Nick Setta had a pair of short treys for the Tabbies who look out-classed
in this one.
FIRST HALF RECAP
Seconds left in the second
quarter – Lion’s kicker Paul McCallum nails a 43-yard pipe splitter, adding
three more to a 27-6 lead.
Moments earlier when evading four Cat defensemen, Lion’s Lyle Green breezed through the end zone.
Back to tackling basics for
the Tabbies losing big on their own turf.
B.C quarterback Buck Pierce hit the fullback with a 12-yard scoring toss.
Green caught the ball in the flat, broke a tackle bid from Rontarius Robinson and strolled into the end zone.
The scoring drive covered 61 yards in five plays.
Pierce gave a seven-yard dance into the Tiger Cat end zone early in the second quarter, boosting the lead 17-3.
He'd capped off an
eight-play, 80-yard march.
It appeared the B.C. QB was going to be sacked by Hamilton defensive tackle Darrell Adams, who
got his beefy arms around him, but Pierce spun out of the tackle bid and headed
up the middle for the touchdown.
This comes even after kicker Nick Setta put the Tabbies on the board on the team's first possession.
Fans at Ivor Wynne Stadium saw B.C. linebacker Jamall Johnson pick off a Casey Printers pass and romp 56
yards for another major.
It was 10-3 at the start of the second quarter.
McCallum booted a 25-yard field goal to match Setta's first score for the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
