MANCHESTER, England - Canada's David Phillips qualified for the world squash championship on Saturday.

Phillips, from Beaconsfield, Que., defeated Ireland's Arthur Gaskin 12-10, 11-6, 11-6 in 45 minutes.

Andrew McDougall of Calgary was to play his qualifying match on Sunday.

On the women's side, Tara Mullins of Montreal and Alana Miller of Winnipeg were also set to play in qualifying on Sunday.

The first round begins Monday.
