Cashmere, sweaters, coats, designer labels -- after-Christmas sales are the time to fill your wardrobe with high fashion at low prices. But beware. It's easy to make an impulse decision in the frenzy.

You can buy with abandon and hope for the best or decide what you need and end up with something fabulous that goes with everything.

Consider putting party pieces on the list along with cashmere sweaters in colours that work through early spring. Leather will add dash to your wardrobe and accessories, such as leather belts, unusual jewellery or boots in scarlet, offer a big style fix.

Remember that the treasures go quickly, but walk away from anything too trendy. If you find nothing you like, keep your money in your wallet. Happy hunting.
