Not many can claim to be a museum piece and still be alive.

That's how 84-year-old Betty Webster of Ancaster sees herself now that her gold lame tennis skirt and top are part of an exhibit at the Dundas Museum & Archives on Park Street.

The museum's new exhibit, Meet You at the Driving Park! A Retrospective Exhibition, tells the history of the treasured town meeting place. It opened Tuesday night to the sound of the Dundas Pipes and Drums on the museum lawn.

Betty is the longest living player at the Dundas Tennis Club, which has been around since 1924. "I'm not only history, I'm historical," she says with a laugh.

Betty was a pioneer in establishing the regional structure of the Ontario Tennis Association in the early 1970s.

With her gold lame tennis skirt and gold top, she became known as the golden girl about 10 years ago in Florida where she plays tennis during the winter. She now plays with people who are half her age and younger.

In the era of bouffant hair, she recalled one day when the ball went missing and it was found in her hair.

Last Friday night, the tennis club roasted her at a Wimbledon-themed party, complete with strawberries and cream.

Betty is a firm believer that you have to be passionate about something and tennis and theatre keep her young.
