There were many disappointed race fans at Ohsweken Speedway last week who missed out on the much anticipated two-day World of Outlaws Sprint Car races because steady rains kept the cars off the track.

And the event, called the Six Nations Showdown, will not be rescheduled this year.

"The decision was not an easy one for either the speedway or World of Outlaw officials, as all of us wanted to race," the track said in a recent release. "Many factors and scenarios were addressed, along with scheduling options, before a final decision was made with confidence."

Ticketholders can get a refund by calling 1-888-720-7223, or e-mailing pelkiekj@ebtech.net. There will be no refunds or exchanges handled by the speedway itself.

Former Formula One and CART champion Jacques Villeneuve will be driving on the weekend at the track named after his late father, Gilles.

The younger Villeneuve, who has flirted with NASCAR Cup rides the past two years, will be driving the Braun Racing Toyota Camry in the upcoming NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve at Montreal. This race is part of the 35-race 2008 Nationwide Series, and it is the second time the event has taken place on the 2.71-mile road circuit.

Villeneuve knows the track well, racing here in 2006 with the BMW Sauber F1 team. His best F1 finish at the track was second place in 1996 to teammate Damon Hill. At present, Clint Bowyer leads the Nationwide standings. Two-day ticket prices range from $55 to $165.

Weekend winners: Chris Perley recently won the Hy-Miler Nationals at Sandusky, Ohio. But it was Mike Lichty who had the fans on their seats in the International Super Modified Association (ISMA) 100-lapper. Lichty, of Innerkip, Ont., took the lead on lap 28, had a small tussle with another car and went to the rear of the 26-car field on lap 42, and then worked his way back through the field to finish in third, behind Americans Perley and Charley Schultz ... Merrittville Speedway will be hosting races for the visiting Ontario Dirt Late Models and the DIRT Big-Block Modifieds on the holiday weekend, with a regular card of racing ... Hamilton's Bruce Boland didn't advance past the first round of the latest Pro Modified Racing Association event recently at Dunn Tire Raceway Park in Lancaster, N.Y. American Mike Stawicki won the event but Boland retained his points lead in the Pro Mod series.
