With a bigger than usual stack of dishes awaiting you this holiday weekend, it's safety reminder time.

While you might be tempted to soak that load overnight, don't.

Experts say that letting dishes sit in water for a long time creates an environment in which food particles become a feeding ground for bacteria.

Later washing may not be enough to remove the problem.

If you're washing by hand, do so within two hours and let the dishes air dry, or get them in the dishwasher and start the cycle as soon as possible.
