Local communications company Redchair Branding Inc. is celebrating international recognition in its field this week.

In a competition involving about 25 countries, the Hamilton company won in the corporate image category of the 2008 Summit International Awards for a public relations video.

The company had previously won a bronze medal in the Summit International Awards for its work on a Longo's campaign.

"For us, it's prestigious because it's out of so many countries," said Redchair creative director Gerry Visca.

Redchair has done work for McMaster University, the Port of Hamilton and other local groups.

Inspired this year by the story of family-owned Bot Construction Group in Oakville, Visca said he was nearly as happy to profile the big name in bridge-building as he was to win the award.

"It goes from the roots of having to struggle with pitchforks and shovels," Visca said of the video he created for the company, founded in 1952 by Italian immigrant Silvio Bot.

Bot died in 1995 and his children, Roy, Steve and Nancy, featured in the video, now run the business.

Bot Construction Group has done a lot of work in and around Hamilton, building parts of the Lincoln Alexander Parkway and Highway 407 in Burlington.

But Visca said the most enjoyable part of the project was interviewing staff in northern Ontario.

"These were tiny women driving mega rigs, incredible trucks and they said, 'We just love building these roads.'"
