A Hamilton private-school teacher is among the recipients of the 2007-08 Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence and Excellence in Early Childhood Education.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper yesterday announced 95 of the awards will go to educators across Canada, for having developed innovative ways to teach, such as new use of technology.

David Moffat, a Grade 11 and 12 biology teacher at Hillfield Strathallan College, will get one of just 16 certificate of excellence teaching awards. Others get a certificate of achievement. Moffat was cited for developing a self-paced online unit on nutrition and digestion, using online microscopy labs and e-mail conferencing, as well as for creating a high-level website for a Grade 11 university-preparatory biology course.
