Ted Brellisford, the Hamilton Spectator
Two-Minute Job Shadow

Special to The Hamilton Spectator

(May 16, 2008)

Who: Christine Cadeau.

Job: Owner of Zacada Circus School (www.zacadacircus.com) with husband Kosta Zakharenko.

Responsible for: Teaching circus skills to adults and kids as young as three.

How she got there: Started gymnastics classes at age five, then joined the Lincoln Leapers skipping team. From age nine, she did four years of intensive gymnastics training, which she combined with skipping to become the World Jumprope Champion. She joined Cirque du Soleil at 22 and toured for five years, then set up Zacada a year ago.

She flies through the air with the greatest of ease: And is patient, self-disciplined and determined.

A typical day has her: Teaching trapeze, tightrope-walking and aerial silks (six-metre ribbons that she uses to descend from the ceiling).

Typical hours: Ten a day, six days a week.

Her other cool tricks include: Double Dutch skipping (where she does backward flips through two jump ropes) and the German Wheel (a kind of human hamster wheel).

Did you know? You can catch her in action at Theatre Aquarius in June.

Words of wisdom: Circus school is great if you're bored with the gym and want creative fitness and fun.
