Tip of the Day

The Hamilton Spectator

(Jul 18, 2008)

A reader has a dessert recipe that calls for Izarra, and wonders what that is.

Put on your obscure-liqueurs-thinking-cap to get the answer. Izarra is a herb-flavoured sweet liqueur based on Armagnac. It is not available in Ontario. The good news is you can substitute equal amounts of either Benedictine or Chartreuse liqueur, which are very similar to Izarra and are sold here.
