Eargate gets girl, 8, tossed

WELLINGTON, N.Z. An eight-year-old girl was ejected from a tennis event when officials discovered she was wearing a radio earpiece to receive instructions from her dad. Officials found the earpiece hidden under the girl's headband, linked by a cord to a receiver under her shirt. Her father said the earpiece was only being used to help the girl keep score.

Carlyle's contract extended

ANAHEIM, CALIF. The Anaheim Ducks are giving head coach Randy Carlyle a vote of confidence with a two-year extension.

Carlyle, who had one year remaining on his original contract, is now signed through the 2010-11 NHL season.

He led the Ducks to a 47-27-8 record for 102 points last season.

CFL passes around honours

TORONTO Kerry Joseph, Reggie Hunt, Tristan Jackson and Paris Jackson are the CFL's top players for week.

Joseph, who led the Argonauts over Edmonton with 22 of 38 passing for 343 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions, took the offensive award. Joseph also ran for a league-high 118 yards on 10 carries and one rushing touchdown.

Mats' decision Aug. 1: report

A report on RDS says Mats Sundin will make a decision on his future Aug. 1.

At that time the former captain of the Maple Leafs will decide whether he'll play this upcoming season or simply retire.

This comes on the heels of Sundin shooting down a report that stated that he had decided to accept a $20-million US, two-year deal from the Vancouver Canucks.
