MONTREAL - Montreal's Uniprix Stadium has been selected to host the Americas Zone Group I Fed Cup tournament.
The event, which will be held Feb. 4-7, 2009, features seven countries that will compete for one berth in the World Group II qualifying round next April. Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Bahamas will all be taking part.
"Montreal loves tennis and we are already very excited about playing there," Canadian Fed Cup captain Rene Collins said in a statement. "Crowd support can be a decisive factor in Fed Cup matches and we are thrilled to be able to count on the noisy Montreal fans."
The seven nations will be divided into two groups, and a round-robin will determine the winners in each group. The two finalists will face off Feb. 7 for a spot in the World Group II qualifying round.
