The original Hockey Night in Canada theme song is getting a rock 'n' roll makeover.

Montreal band Simple Plan will be the first in a series of Canadian artists to put their stamp on the iconic tune, TSN announced yesterday. The network nabbed the rights to the song earlier this year after the CBC failed to put together a deal with composer Dolores Claman.

Simple Plan is set to record its version of the song today in Montreal. The theme song scheduled to debut Oct. 15 during an NHL telecast featuring Boston at Montreal.

TSN will use a classic version of the song, recently recorded by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, to kick off its slate of NHL games, beginning Oct. 14.

Since losing the rights to the song, CBC has launched a contest to come up with a new theme for its hockey broadcast. A winner will be announced Saturday.
